Easy Honolulu Bike Tour through Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island

There is so much history in Waikiki and the surrounding areas.  This Honolulu bike tour starts at the Diamond Head entrance to Ala Moana Beach Park.  You will ride all the way along the outskirts around the beach and back to where we started.

There is a Biki Bike Station where we begin this tour so it is easy and convenient.  Part 2 of the Waikiki Walking Tour also stops here, so it makes a great addition to that excursion.  The beach park has several lifeguard towers and calm waters off a gentle sandy slope.

Hear stories from a real local guide as you enjoy this Honolulu bike tour and spin through the park.  It is built on the worldwide VoiceMap travel and walking tour app, which is free to download and easy to use.

Learn About the Ocean on this Honolulu Swim and Bike Tour

Since we ride along the ocean for most of the trip, itʻs only right we share some stories about it.  On this tour you will learn about traditional fishing and sailing techniques, and maybe even see them in action.  We also share stories about legendary surfers and lifesavers throughout Hawaiiʻs history.  Youʻll learn a little more about the islands during World War II and some famous television shows filmed here.

This GPS Guided Honolulu Bike Tour begins at the Diamond Head entrance to Ala Moana Beach Park.  There is a Biki Bike rental station where we start.

The route is about 2.5 miles and takes about half an hours to complete, but there are various options along the path for you to customize the experience.

Ride by the Waikiki Yacht Club and hear the story what happened to the area during World War II, itʻs members and how they brought back the club.

You will also hear a little bit about a classic television show that featured this area in the opening shot.  This one is for the Gilligans Island fans.

Learn more information about the Ala Wai Canal and Boat Harbor.  You will recognize the area from several famous television shows.

As we ride along the boat harbor you will learn about traditional fishing and sailing techniques in Hawaii.  Moana fans will especially love this part.

Along our ride through Ala Moana Beach Park there are several great photo opportunities.  Perhaps none more iconic than the view of Diamond Head.

You will also see Waikiki and this is a great area to watch the sunrise for you early risers or those still on East Coast time.  Sit and relax then continue your ride.

Make sure to bring your bathing suit, a towel, and some sunscreen.  There are several great swimming opportunities at Ala Moana and Magic Island.

The Magic Island Lagoon is a calm, protected area and the lifeguard tower is staffed during peak times.  There is a gradual sandy slope great for all abilities.

See where legends like Olympic Gold Medalist and World Surf League World Champion Carissa Moore learned how to surf and learn more about other local pros.

You might get some great pitures of surfers and boady boarders, especially during the Summer time.  Weʻll also share stories about Hawaii lifesavers.

Originally slated to be a resort, there were preparations made for a boat harbor in the park.  Instead, there is a great calm swim area with a softly sloping beach.

There are several lifeguard towers along the beach and the water is typically flat and warm.  Several public restrooms and beach showers are available.

We ride up to the Kewalo end of Ala Moana Beach Park.  If you have charter or fishing boat leaving from here you can finish the tour afterwards.

While we ride weʻll share a bit of the areas Military history.  Kewalo Basin is also where you can find the statue of Mother Mary Anne Cope of Kalaupapa.

For those who want to do some shopping, watch a movie, or get some food you can pause the tour, head to Ward Center and resume when you finish.

We share a little bit about the areas history and Hawaiian Royalty whoʻs trust still owns the land today as we ride back towards where the tour began.

As we finish up the tour we will share some information about the Ala Moana Shopping Mall located directly across the street from the beach park.

This tour is perfect before or after visiting the ʻWorldʻs Largest Open Air Shopping Mall.”  We finish and end at a stop from Part 2 of the Waikiki Walking Tour.
